The Saints bullpen standing during the National Anthem
Trailing Winnipeg by one game in their division the Saints opened a 3 game series against the Goldeyes June 17th at Midway.
Monday's game did not start off the series against the Goldeyes the way the Saints would have liked. They lost the game 11-3 as Winnipeg's starter Mark Hardy went the distance for the complete game. The loss put the Saints two games back of the Goldeyes in the North Division. The promotion at the ballpark was a Toilet Paper Drive presented by Innovative Office Solutions. This included a game for kids to throw the toilet paper into a toilet, to donate it, and (the best part) toilet races. The Saints had two motorized toilets for fans to race on outside the ballpark, and they also did a toilet race around the walkway of the park in between innings. My MVP for the game is Joey Becker (1-3, 1 RBI, HR).
Tuesday's game saw the Saints offense come back to life. With the Saints trailing 1-0 in the third Craig Brazell stepped up to the plate with the bases loaded and did not disappoint. Brazell hit a towering blast to right center for a grand slam and a 4-1 Saints lead (video of celebration below). The Saints also added 3 runs in the fifth inning and won the game 8-5. The win pulled the Saints back within one game of a tie for first place with the Goldeyes. This night was the celebration of the Saints first game at Midway Stadium twenty years ago. After the game was also a special three song concert from the group Megan and Liz. We were able to go onto the field for the performance. We also got to meet Saints Manager George Tsamis who came over to talk to Midway Tailgater (he knows everyone) while we were on the field. This was extra cool for me. I was able to listen to the manager of the Saints talk about his team on the field! My MVP is Craig Brazell (2-5, 4 RBI, Grand Slam).
The rubber game of the series took place Wednesday and gave the Saints a chance to tie the Goldeyes for first place in the division. The Saints did not let their opportunity go to waste as they won the game 4-3 on a walk off bases loaded single by Dan Kaczrowski scoring Brandon Tripp from third. This was the Saints second walk off hit at home in a week, talk about exciting baseball at Midway! The Saints left home for a series on the road tied for first place. The night was also Game of Thrones and Name the Royal Babies night at the ballpark. For Game of Thrones night the Saints had a King (intern) carried out on a throne for the in between inning contests to judge the competitions. There was also a contest where fans had the opportunity to put down what they thought the best names would be for the Royal babies from England and the Royal babies from here (The Mauers). Kent and Kirby won for the best Royal baby names from here. It only makes sense. My MVP is Mark Hamburger (7 IP, 2 ER, 4K's)
