Saints Rocked By Boulders

The final three games of the Saints last home stand against the Rockland Boulders did not go quite as planned. The local nine were swept for the first time at Midway this season. On the positive side, none of the games were rained out. We had a blast (as always) despite the visiting team trying to bring us down. From a popular promotion returning for a second strait year, to the first 10th Inning Stretch since Kevin's wedding, it was a fun few days.

Sunset panoramic from the right field bleecher seats Friday night

Friday nights scoring was started with a bang for the Saints. Brandon Tripp hit a solo home run in the second inning for a 1-0 lead. Then after that well, the wheels kind of fell off as they say. The Boulders beat up the Saints pitching staff for fourteen hits winning the game 9-4. The promotion for the night was, Friday Night Fireworks presented by Xcel Energy. A couple fun moments during the night were watching Coach and Nerd working the crowd into a frenzy trying to keep a Saints rally going late in the game. Along with a crazy beautiful sunset that we just happened to be hanging out in the right field bleacher seats when it began. My MVP for the game is, Evan Bigley (2-4, R, 2RBI, HR).

The Dark Emperor and me on Star Wars night

There were a lot of runs in Saturdays game, unfortunately most of them came in a ten run sixth inning by the Boulders. The Saints, who were leading 4-1 going into the sixth, were not able to overcome the big inning and lost the game 14-5. The promotion for the night was, Han fired first! An investigative look at George Lucas' masterpiece on Star Wars Night. Almost every major Star Wars character was on hand for the evening fun. From taking pictures with fans, to running on the field to congratulate a Darth Vader who had just asked his girl friend to marry him during a contest (she said yes), they were a very fun presence in the ballpark for the night. Another great moment from the night was when the What's in the Bag contestant won his daughter. It was the first time they'd seen each other since she returned home from serving nine months in Afghanistan. Great job by the Saints and Brian Kelly! Tonight marked game number two Stephanie has missed this year. This time she had a good excuse, she was doing photography for a golf tournament supporting the Minnesota Military Family Foundation. A very worthy cause. My evening started at the 10th Inning Stretch where George and Ole stopped by for a couple Green Onion Brats and fun baseball conversations. I also made my first solo trip to the Gulag, and ended up being the last and only person out there in the ninth inning. It was kind of cool and eerie at the same time. My MVP for the game is, Henry Wrigley (3-4, R, 2RBI, 2B, HR).

Seigo Masubuchi after the fans sang him happy birthday

The series finale saw Anthony Claggett have another good start at Midway and bring the Rockland offense back down to earth. Sadly it wasn't enough for the Saints to take advantage, losing the game 4-3 and completing the bad kind of sweep at home. The rain canceled promotion was supposed to be, You won't find our WrestleMania event on pay-per-view, only at Midway Stadium! Post-Game wrestling with the American Wrestling Federation. The Saints have not announced a date for the second try on this promotion yet. Hopefully they will be able to make it happen, everyone I talked to (myself included) was really looking forward to seeing Ole Sheldon's involvement in a match. Today was also Seigo Masubuchi's Birthday. During the game Brian Kelly interrupted karaoke with The Real Japanese Guy to have the whole crowd sing Happy Birthday to him. After the game Seigo joined Pat, Michelle, Billy, Mary, and us for cupcakes and tailgating to celebrate. My MVP for the game is, Anthony Claggett (8IP, 3ER, 4K).

That ends another Saints home stand at Midway. The next series in St. Paul begins July 1st against the Fargo-Moorhead Redhawks and includes the July 3rd Independence Day fireworks super show, it is always the best of the year. Hope to see you there!

Go Saints!
