St. Paul Saints take the series over Diablos

Even though it was another cool, soggy May weekend in St. Paul the local nine were trying to stay hot at home to begin the season. The Saints did just that in their series against the El Paso Diablos, taking two out of the three games.

Dan Kacrowski rounding third on his way to score another Saints run.

The series opener was a Friday night game with the Saints offense coming up big in the third (four runs) and sixth (six runs) innings in route to a 11-3 victory. This was also Intern day at the ballpark, promoting the new movie The Intern starring Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn. Staff members who are interns had to wear a intern sign around their neck, and some where chosen to compete in on the field game like "stupid intern tricks". My MVP for the game is Brad Boyer (2-4, 4 RBI, 2B, HR)

Interviewing a Military member for Military Appreciation Night

The second game of the home series was Military appreciation night. This was a night for the Saints and everyone in attendance to salute both active and past military members at the park. For the game the Saints wore black jerseys with a camouflage Saints logo on the front and camouflage name and number on the back. Unfortunately the game did not turn out as well on the field for the Saints as it did in the ballpark for military appreciation night. The Saints lost the game 7-4 in big part due to a five run sixth inning for the Diablos. My MVP for the game is Brandon Tripp (1-4, 2 RBI, HR)

Saints players celebration another win!

The series finale was a 5:05pm Sunday afternoon game. A 5:05pm start time you ask? The reason for the later start on a Sunday was the Saints promotion after the game. There was a Monster Food Truck Rally and a Memorial Day fireworks super show. The game ended about 7:45pm which gave plenty of time for the many local food trucks in the rally to drive out on the field and for fans to grab something to eat before getting comfy on the outfield grass to watch the firework super show explode into the night sky. While neither teams offense exploded during the game (except for Joey Becker's home run) the Saints pulled out the win 3-2 in a well pitched game for both teams. My MVP for the game is Mark Hamburger (7 inn, 2 runs, 5 K's)

The next Saints home series starts Friday June 6th. While were still not putting away our Saints blanket or sweatshirts yet I'm hoping it will be 80 and sunny for all six home games in a row. I think we deserve it!

Go Saints!
