The Saints latest home stand began on Saturday July 6th and went through Tuesday July 9th against the Kansas City T-Bones. The Saints and T-Bones split the series two games a piece.
Saturday's series opener was played before an almost sellout crowd on a beautiful summer night at Midway. The Saints jumped out to a early 5-0 lead through three innings with the help of back to back home runs by Brad Boyer (2 run) and Willie Cabrera (solo) in the first. The Saints offense then cooled and the T-Bones rallied scoring two a piece in in the fifth and seventh innings, and finally tying the game with one more run in the ninth. The 5-5 tie game set the stage for the Saints to win in the bottom of the ninth once again at home. With one out and runners at first and third Adam Frost stepped to the plate and once again delivered with the pressure on. Frost hit a single to left on the first pitch he saw scoring Jose Hernandez from third to win the game for the Saints 6-5. Another walk off win at home! The promotion for the night was the Saints Independence Day Celebration followed by an awesome post game Fireworks Super Show sponsored by Cub and Snapple. The night at the ballpark, once again, featured a couple new experiences for us. We started off by tailgating for a couple hours with Kevin (@midwaytailgater) and Bill (@aabfan) and enjoying good conversations along with a couple beers and green onion brats with Stadium Sauce (the brats are a Milwaukee tailgating staple, and the Stadium Sauce is from Miller Park). Once the game started we were chosen to have our seats upgraded to the Flex Perks seats. These seats are a couple airplane seats that recline located right next to the Saints dugout at field level. Super Cool! We then finished up the evening by attending our first ever 10th Inning Stretch with Kevin and Bill in the parking lot after the fireworks finished up. The 10th Inning Stretch is post game tailgating in the lot talking about the game while you watch the gigantic line of cars sit and wait to get onto Energy Drive. My MVP for the game is Adam Frost (3-5, Game winning RBI, SB) with honorable mention to Brad Boyer (2-3, 2R, 2RBI, BB, HR)
The second game of the series was played Sunday afternoon. The T-Bones opened the scoring with a single run in the first and third innings to grab a 2-0 lead. Then the Saints offense came alive scoring three in the fourth and four in the fifth innings to lead 7-2. The fifth inning highlighted by a three run home run by Brandon Tripp. But once again the T-Bones fought their way back knotting score at seven in the ninth inning. In the bottom of the ninth the Saints loaded the bases with one out and in stepped Ole Sheldon. Ole hit a slow rolling ground ball to the shortstop and beat out the double play try by a whisker at first, allowing the winning run to score in the bottom of the ninth for the Saints! The promotion for the day was Faith and Family Day with a post game concert by The Fairlead. My MVP for the game is Brandon Tripp (3-4, 1R, 4RBI, HR)
Monday night was game three of the four game series. The T-Bones won the game 5-2 behind stellar pitching and a three run third inning the Saints could not come back from. The promotion for the night was Because we didn't do a Harlem Shake video: A Salute to Dead Dances on Kevin Bacon's Birthday. The highlight of the night came when a fan was chosen to go on the field between innings to attempt to do a variety of "Dead Dances" ranging from the Time Warp to Gangnam Style. My MVP for the game is Dan Kaczrowski (1-4, 3B, RBI)
The series finally was Tuesday afternoon. The game was moved from a night game to a day game to give the Saints more time to prepare the field for the Bob Dylan concert at Midway on Wednesday. The change to a day game did not help the Saints out at all. They fell behind 7-2 after the fourth inning and ended up losing the game 8-5 after a late comeback rally fell short in the eight inning. The game day promotion was Midway Matinee game. This game was bittersweet for me. It was the first game my wife, Stephanie, has missed all season (due to work), but I was able to bring my Mom to her first Saints game in years. We had a great time, even though the Saints didn't win. The best part was everyone we have gotten to know from the Saints through the year coming up and asking me who my new girl was. My MVP for the game is Willie Cabrera (4-5, 2 2B, 1R, 1RBI)
The Saints next home series begins on July 18th against the Grand Prairie Airhogs. I love the nicknames of the teams in this league!
